Hebrews 12:1-2
"...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith..."

Jayden

Since so many people haven't yet met our boys, I thought that I'd share a little about each of them.

My "big" boy is Jayden.  After seeing our pediatrician, she confirmed what we had wondered all along--that Jayden is probably not 2 1/2 yrs. old but rather 3 1/2.  During the first few days at home, it was quite obvious to us that Jayden is a very strong willed little boy.  We battled some poor behavior in the first week and a half but we have seen God working and he is becoming much more obedient and willing to "give up power" to us.  I think that this shows he is believing that he can trust us and that he feels loved even in the midst of discipline.  By the end of this two weeks, I can say that we need to do very little correcting in the areas that we were constantly addressing those first few days.  We are also seeing a change of his heart attitude after he's been corrected.  In the first many days, when we would correct him, he would want nothing to do with us and push us away.  I was concerned that we would lose him in the attachment process with each correction but we knew that we wanted to stop the hitting, punching, kicking and biting issues.  Thankfully now, after we correct his bad behavior, he doesn't push us away but rather reaches out to hug us when we reach out to him.

I laugh as I think to the specific prayer request that I prayer numerous times that our boys would "love Jesus and love life".  Jayden loves life.  He is on the go from the time his feet hit in the floor until his head lays down on his pillow at night.  The report that we received several months ago while he was in the foster home said that "he talks a lot...A LOT".  Boy, was that an accurate statement!  On the ride home from Cincinnati, we had been on the road for about 30 minutes and Kurt asked if he had an "off" button!  He is learning many words in English and beginning to put several words together.  After two weeks, he can count to six and knows several colors.  He loves to build with blocks and is very organized and meticulous as he lines up cars, crayons, etc.  (of course, I love that!).  He enjoys coloring and does a pretty good job of staying (somewhat) in the lines.

Jayden finds great pleasure in the little things that most of us take for granted.  My friend, Angie, brought underwear to us in the first couple of days and Jayden was overjoyed!  My friend, Shayla, brought two tubs of clothes and she could hardly get in the door as Jayden was so excited.  He and Tate then proceeded to take all the clothes out of the tubs and take to their room where Jayden looked at each item, commented on each one, folded them and then stuffed them in his dresser drawers.  This process took him quite a long while but it was the sweetest thing.  My aunt and uncle brought some clothes and a life jacket--which Jayden and Tate again, went through all the clothes, and Jayden shoved the life jacket in his dresser drawer!  My friend, Mindy, brought the cowboy boots...which are absolutely huge on him but he LOVES them.  When he walks, he looks like he's been riding a horse on the trail for a week!

He is a comedian.  He thinks it is quite comical to fart and then point to someone else (like me!) to blame them for the sound and not him.  Kurt has begun to call him "Sumba Boy" and Jayden laughs and repeats it.  He has to take this original pose with Kurt each time he sits on the toilet.  This must be their bonding "thing" because I don't do this with him!

Jayden is a pretty good sleeper.  He wakes up at night and comes straight to our bed where we pull him in and snuggle up--this sometimes happens 2 or 3 times throughout the night.  Since being home, he has slept through the night one time.  We do have him take a nap--which the last 3 days has been 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. (so much better than the 30 min. naps he took the first several days).  I love nap time--whether it's catching a nap for myself or trying to accomplish all that I can in that time.

He is a good food eater.  Rice, beans and chicken are his favorites though we have laughed that the boys might be Italian because they also love lasagna and spaghetti. Jayden will try any food one time.  He puts the bite in his mouth and acts like a professional food critic.  If he likes it he will make the "Yum" sound.  If he does not like it, he will spit it out and try to hand it to you because he doesn't want his plate to be messed up.

I would say that he is a "daddy's boy".  He has cried when Kurt has gone to work but LOVES it when dad comes home.  He loves to greet him at the door and take Kurt's lunch pail into the kitchen and empty it.

He is a great big brother and watches out for Tate.  We noticed this immediately when we left the airport--that he kept looking back to make sure that Tate was following right behind.  He will offer his own food up to give to his brother if Tate has eaten his own food all gone.  On the day they got their shots, he heard Tate crying in another room and was quite concerned until the two of them were finally together.  Tonight while we were driving home in our car, he took Tate's hand and they held hands the entire way home!

He is appreciative and says "thank you" without being prompted (for the most part).
He will wrap his little arms around us at any given time and deliver a sweet hug along with a kiss. He is a great addition to our family and we feel very blessed to call him our son.
