No Ordinary Garage Sale

Myself, Jenna and Kurt
(Devin didn't make it home that weekend from college)

Last weekend there was a garage sale held to help raise funds for the adoption of our two children from Africa.  It was no ordinary garage sale.  It had the hands of God all over it and I will tell you why....

This sale took the vision of two friends, Stephanie Zielke and Angie Carson, and blossomed into the efforts, hard work, giving, donating and love of  25+ individuals/families!  Some of these are our family and friends, some are acquaintances and some of them we personally don't even know.  It was no ordinary garage sale.

Stephanie, myself and Angie
(These two friends are godly women who daily show Christ's
love to everyone they come in contact with.)

I will not attempt to name everyone who helped or contributed because I know that I would fail in mentioning each one.  I take great comfort in the fact that God knows all that was done and every person who contributed in various ways.  These are just some of the things that I know of that were done...God knows the rest:

Donations for the sale which filled a 3 car garage to overflowing! (and the willingness of a man to give up his garage for a week for the sake of someone else)
The donation of change money to start the sale
Workers who hauled, set up, sorted, organized, priced, boxed and cleaned up
Borrowed tables, signs and those who made the cutest signs and flyers EVER!
Friends who advertised it through:
the newspaper, flyers, blogs, facebook and emails--and word of mouth
People who worked during the sale (not to forget the husbands and grandparents who watched kids and held down the homefront so moms and wives could be there)
I have never been at a sale with such good food:
5th grade girls who donated, made and sold baked goods
Delicious scones and walking tacos...all donated
The time that was demanded for everything mentioned above
All this and so much more.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Of course, every sale needs people to come buy all those wonderful treasures.  It was no ordinary garage sale.  People came--YOU came!  Some came from short distances and others far away.  Some came and filled their arms...cars...and trucks with purchases, after their purchases were totaled many "needed no change", and others just stopped to donate.  It was a thrill to talk to so many people who were genuinely interested in our adoptions and answer questions.  Acquaintances and strangers have now become friends and we feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such a supportive community.  If we were not able to meet you and you see us around town, or at church, or wherever....tell us that you supported us by coming to our sale.  We would love to personally tell you thank you!

We saw God's goodness to our family through this sale, through your unselfish acts, your generous giving and your words of encouragement.  It was by no means an ordinary garage sale.  It raised $3,001.26!  Unbelievable!  We are humbled.  We feel very loved.  We thank you...each and every one of you.

Stephanie, myself, Jenna, Kurt and Angie

And we give praise and glory to our Almighty God who is always faithful and true.
