Gloom and doom. The skies have been dark here for the last few days and it is still cold. The weather was bringing me down yesterday and I had that "glass half empty" feeling. While I was out and about, I looked around, realizing that everyone around me had the same depressed, gloom and doom kind of look. Hhhmm....could I...little ol' me....make a difference and bring a little bit of sunshine into someone's day? I sensed a challenge.
I have often wished that God would have given me one of those big, beautiful, teeth bearing smiles. Ya know, one of those gorgeous, picture perfect Crest smiles. (Apparently my Aqua Fresh toothpaste just doesn't cut it.) Crest smile or not, I was determined to take on my own challenge--could I be sunshine for someone? As I was running errands, I purposed to smile at everyone I saw. At first, in all honesty, my smile was forced which felt really stupid and awkward. I argued with myself that I probably looked as ridiculous as I felt BUT I was quickly, oh so pleasantly surprised. As I smiled, every single person smiled back AND then they continued smiling....at other people! Can't you feel the love?! Little ol' me felt like one big ray of sunshine!
Matthew 5:14 says that we, as believers, are the light of the world. The challenge is for you to go, be a light and love others through your smile. Make some sunshine happen!
