Hebrews 12:1-2
"...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith..."

Love is....

February is the month of LoveGod calls us to love one another all through the Scriptures.  Correction, He COMMANDS us to love.   In the book Crazy Love, Francis Chan throws out a challenge that is particularly humbling.  He begins it by using I Corinthians 13:4-8, 13.

"Love is patient and kind; love does not
envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable
or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things,
endures all things.  Love never ends....
faith, hope, and love abide, these three;
but the greatest of these is love."
I Corinthians 13:4-8, 13
Francis Chan continues by saying,
     "I was challenged to do a little exercise with these verses, one that was profoundly convicting.  Take the phrase Love is patient and substitute your name for the word love.  (For me, "Francis is patient...")  Do it for every phrase in the passage.
      By the end, don't you feel like a liar?  If I am meant to represent what love is, then I often fail to love people well."
* * *
I took the challenge and fell way short.  I wasn't surprised.  Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  Thankfully, there is ONE who meets the definition of love.  He fulfills every word completely.  He loves us....each and every one of us.  He loves you...and he loves me.  He loves us so much that he gave his very best, his son Jesus.  It moves me to tears even now.

"For God so loved the world
that he gave his only begotten son,
the whosoever believes in him,
should not perish but have everlasting life."
John 3:16

Love is GOD.

  1. Convicting exercise! Thankfully, we can love others because of God's love for us, though we often fall short or fail miserably. Confess it,then love in God's strength, not my own. "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." ~ I John 4:11 ~
